‘Don’t bring me problems, bring me solutions!’

Here is another great post from HBR, this time by Sabina Nawaz on the problem with saying ‘Don’t bring me problems, bring me solutions!’

I have previously shared a post from Melanie Cannon about the merits of framing the problem before you try and solve it, but this article goes a little further into the reason why the alternative approach is so problematic.

‘The “bring me a solution” approach can cause employees to shut down in fear, breed a culture of intimidation, and prevent some problems from surfacing until they’re full-blown crises.’

The post also has some helpful tips for people who find themselves in a solution-focussed environment.
